String Quartet Series – 3rd concert
Internationally acclaimed quartet make a welcome return for three concerts.
Beethoven, Haydn & Freya Waley-Cohen.
In their third and final concert the Sacconi quartet will play a piece commissioned especially to mark their 25th birthday – a set of Dances by Freya Waley-Cohen. With the subtitle Hymns and Songs for Friendship, the music is a celebration of the players as performers and friends over a remarkable quarter-century of making music together. Also on the programme is a favourite Haydn quartet, nicknamed The Bird as some of its themes closely resemble birdsong. The concert finishes with Beethoven’s quartet in F op.135, the last and also the shortest of his late quartets.
