Sacconi Quartet

For their second concert the Sacconi quartet will begin with a short piece by the American composer Caroline Shaw, inspired by the story of Nimrod and the Tower of Babel. Following this is the only surviving quartet by William Walton, a work which caused the composer some difficulty but is known especially for its lovely slow movement. The concert closes with another late Beethoven quartet, this one known for its heartfelt slow movement, marked as a ‘hymn of thanksgiving’.
