Nicholas McCarthy (Pianist)

Piano recital of works for the left hand

Although he was born without a right hand and did not begin to play the piano until he reached the age of fourteen, Nicholas McCarthy’s determination to succeed as a concert pianist saw him enrolled at the Royal College of Music in London. He graduated in 2012, the only one-handed pianist ever to graduate from that venerable institution. He has gone on to forge a successful performing career, championing the left-hand repertoire in concerts in the UK and around the world. His wide-ranging programme includes the monumental Bach/Brahms Chaconne, a piece by Scriabin, and a number of arrangements for the left hand including works by Wagner, Schubert and Richard Strauss.

This concert forms part of the Mole Valley Arts Alive Festival.
