Mozart Clarinet Quintet in A major, K.581
Schubert Octet in F major, D.803

Carducci Quartet

For their final concert the quartet will be joined by the renowned clarinettist Julian Bliss to play two of the best-loved chamber works in the repertoire: Mozart’s hauntingly beautiful Clarinet Quintet and Schubert’s large scale – symphonic-like – but light-hearted and brilliant Octet. The Octet was written towards the end of Schubert’s life and was inspired by a request to compose a chamber work along the lines of Beethoven’s very popular Septet. Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet was written in 1789 for the clarinettist Anton Stadler, for whom he also wrote his Clarinet Concerto.
