Mendelssohn String Quartet No.3 in D major, Op.44 No.1
Philip Glass String Quartet No.3 Mishima
Beethoven String Quartet No.9 in C major, Op.59 No.3, Razumovsky

For their second concert in this series of three, the Carducci Quartet demonstrate their wide-ranging repertoire and versatility. Two major works from the quartet repertoire sandwich a modern work. The last of Beethoven’s three Razumovsky quartets was written for the Russian ambassador in Vienna, who was himself a keen quartet player. Mendelssohn’s third quartet is an exuberant piece. In between they play the third string quartet by the American minimalist composer Philip Glass, which began life as music for a film soundtrack.
