Returning after last year’s very popular series, the Carducci String Quartet, formed in 1997, is well known for its concerts and its many recordings. Their repertoire ranges widely, from Haydn to contemporary composers such as Philip Glass, and they often join with other musicians to play the larger chamber works. Their outstanding performances of the complete cycle of Shostakovich’s 15 quartets gained the accolade of a Royal Philharmonic Society Award. As well as having their own festival and record label, they are passionate about education and run workshops for schoolchildren. Their concert includes an early Haydn quartet, a middle-period work by Beethoven, and Ravel’s ravishingly beautiful quartet.
