The cellist Jamal Aliyev was born in Azerbaijan and studied in Britain at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music. He now enjoys a successful career, performing widely in the UK and Europe.

In 2017 he appeared at the BBC Proms and at the Royal Festival Hall, and also recorded a CD of Russian cello music. Maria Tarasewicz is his frequent partner in recitals and she too is enjoying a flourishing career as a chamber musician and accompanist.

Their programme includes a set of variations by Beethoven and an arrangement of Franck’s great violin sonata, together with music by Massenet, Tchaikovsky, Lutoslawski, and the Bohemian cellist and composer David Popper.
