The Dante String Quartet give the second of their three-concert series, in which they will play the second of Beethoven’s Razumovsky quartets. Count Razumovsky, who commissioned the quartets, was the Russian ambassador to Vienna, and so Beethoven incorporated into this quartet the tune of an old Russian hymn. It is appropriate too that the Dante Quartet will partner it with two Russian works – a quartet by Shostakovich (they are currently focussed on rehearsing and performing the complete fifteen quartets of Shostakovich) and a prelude and fugue by Glazunov.

The String Quartet Series is generously sponsored by Anne Usher
